The GLA has standard Active Brake Assist, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The Q3 doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

The GLA’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. The Q3 doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The GLA’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Q3 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The GLA has standard mbrace, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Q3 doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the GLA and the Q3 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front-wheel drive, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, available all-wheel drive, blind spot warning systems and rearview cameras.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GLA’s wheelbase is 3.8 inches longer than on the Q3 (106.3 inches vs. 102.5 inches).

The GLA45 AMG 4MATIC handles at .96 G’s, while the Q3 Prestige Quattro pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The GLA has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Q3 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

When three different drivers share the GLA, the memory seats and mirrors make it convenient for all three. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat (memory seat optional for the front passenger) and outside mirror angle. The Q3 doesn’t offer a memory system.

The GLA’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Q3 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

If the windows are left down on the GLA the driver can raise them all using the keyless remote; on a hot day the driver can lower the windows. The driver of the Q3 can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Q3 doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.
