The Z4’s corrosion warranty is 8 years and unlimited miles longer than the SLK’ (12/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the Z4 for 4 years and 50,000 miles. BMW will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the SLK.

The Z4’s optional 225/35R19 front and 255/30R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the SLK’ optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Z4 offers optional 19-inch wheels. The SLK’ largest wheels are only 18-inches.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the Z4 can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The SLK doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The Z4’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The SLK’ rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

Consumer Reports rated the Z4’s headlight performance “Fair,” a higher rating than the SLK’ headlights, which were rated “Poor.”
