For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Maserati Ghibli have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Audi A6 doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

Both the Ghibli and the A6 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control and electronic stability systems to prevent skidding.

The Ghibli’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 125 more horsepower (345 vs. 220) and 111 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 258) than the A6 2.0T’s standard 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. The Ghibli’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 35 more horsepower (345 vs. 310) and 44 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 325) than the A6 3.0T’s standard 3.0 supercharged V6. The Ghibli S’ standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 94 more horsepower (404 vs. 310) and 81 lbs.-ft. more torque (406 vs. 325) than the A6 3.0T’s standard 3.0 supercharged V6.

The Ghibli has 1.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the A6 (21.1 vs. 19.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Ghibli has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The A6 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Ghibli’s optional 285/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the A6 Prestige’s optional 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Ghibli offers optional 21-inch wheels. The A6’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the Ghibli can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The A6 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The Ghibli offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The A6’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Ghibli’s wheelbase is 3.3 inches longer than on the A6 (118 inches vs. 114.7 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Ghibli is .3 inches wider in the front and 1.4 inches wider in the rear than on the A6.

The Ghibli’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the A6’s (55.6% to 44.4%). This gives the Ghibli more stable handling and braking.

The Ghibli S Q4 handles at .91 G’s, while the A6 3.0T Quattro pulls only .88 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Ghibli’s turning circle is .6 feet tighter than the A6’s (38.4 feet vs. 39 feet).

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the Ghibli is rated a Large car by the EPA, while the A6 is rated a Mid-size.

The Ghibli has 10.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the A6 (108 vs. 97.2).

The Ghibli has 1.6 inches more front headroom, .3 inches more front shoulder room, 1 inch more rear headroom and .2 inches more rear shoulder room than the A6.

The Ghibli offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The A6 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Ghibli’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge – which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The A6 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Ghibli offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The A6 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors available for the Ghibli detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The A6 doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

When the Ghibli with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The A6’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.
