For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Maserati GranTurismo are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Audi R8 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.
The GranTurismo has standard parking sensors to help warn the driver about vehicles, pedestrians or other obstacles behind or in front of their vehicle. The R8 doesn’t offer a front parking aid.
Both the GranTurismo and the R8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control and electronic stability systems to prevent skidding.
The R8’s redline is at 8250 to 8700 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The GranTurismo has a 7200 RPM redline.
The GranTurismo has more powerful engines than the R8:
Horsepower |
Torque |
|
GranTurismo MC 4.7 DOHC V8 |
444 HP |
376 lbs.-ft. |
GranTurismo Sport 4.7 DOHC V8 |
454 HP |

R8 V8 4.2 DOHC V8 |

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GranTurismo has standard 20-inch wheels. Only 19-inch wheels are available on the R8.
For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranTurismo’s wheelbase is 11.5 inches longer than on the R8 (115.8 inches vs. 104.3 inches).
