Safety Comparison

Both the XF and the A7 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control and electronic stability systems to prevent skidding.

Engine Comparison

The XF 3.0’s standard 3.0 supercharged V6 produces 30 more horsepower (340 vs. 310) and 7 lbs.-ft. more torque (332 vs. 325) than the A7’s 3.0 supercharged V6. The XF Supercharged’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8 produces 160 more horsepower (470 vs. 310) and 99 lbs.-ft. more torque (424 vs. 325) than the A7’s 3.0 supercharged V6. The XFR’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8 produces 200 more horsepower (510 vs. 310) and 136 lbs.-ft. more torque (461 vs. 325) than the A7’s 3.0 supercharged V6.

Tires and Wheels Comparison

The XFR/Supercharged’s 285/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the A7’s optional 35 series tires.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the XF can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The A7 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Suspension and Handling Comparison

The XF offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The A7’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The XFR goes through Road & Track’s slalom faster than the A7 (67.2 vs. 66.7 MPH).

For better maneuverability, the XF’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the A7’s (37.7 feet vs. 39 feet).

Chassis Comparison

The Jaguar XF may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 50 to 550 pounds less than the Audi A7.

As tested by Road & Track while cruising at 50 MPH, the interior of the XFR is quieter than the A7 (62 vs. 68 dB).

Passenger Space Comparison

The XF has 4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the A7 (98 vs. 94).

The XF has .2 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front legroom, 1 inch more rear headroom and .5 inches more rear shoulder room than the A7.

Ergonomics Comparison

The XF’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the A7.

If the windows are left down on the XF the driver can raise them all using the key in the outside lock cylinder. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from outside the vehicle using the key in the outside lock cylinder or the keyless remote. The driver of the A7 can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors available for the XF detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The A7 doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

A power rear sunshade is optional in the XF to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The A7 doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

When the XF is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The A7’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.

Economic Advantages Comparison

Insurance will cost less for the XF owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the XF will cost $205 less than the A7 over a five-year period.

Intellichoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Jaguar XF will be $2086 less than for the Audi A7.
