For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Land Rover Range Rover are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Porsche Cayenne has only front height-adjustable seat belts.

The Range Rover has standard whiplash protection, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the whiplash protection system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Cayenne doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The Range Rover offers an optional Surround Camera System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Cayenne only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Range Rover and the Cayenne have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control and electronic stability systems to prevent skidding.

The Land Rover Range Rover weighs 759 to 1493 pounds more than the Porsche Cayenne. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover has standard 19 inch wheels. Smaller 18 inch wheels are standard on the Cayenne.

The Range Rover has a standard full size spare tire so your trip isn’t interrupted by a flat. A full size spare isn’t available on the Cayenne, it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The front and rear suspension of the Range Rover uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Cayenne, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Range Rover has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Range Rover’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Cayenne doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover has a 2.3 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Cayenne (11 vs. 8.7 inches), allowing the Range Rover to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Range Rover’s minimum ground clearance is .25 inch higher than on the Cayenne Turbo (11 vs. 10.75 inches).

The Range Rover’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Cayenne.

If the windows are left down on the Range Rover the driver can raise them all using the key in the outside lock cylinder. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from outside the vehicle using the key in the outside lock cylinder or the keyless remote. The driver of the Cayenne can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Range Rover to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Cayenne doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

When the Range Rover is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The Cayenne’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.
