The Panamera offers all wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer all wheel drive.
The Porsche Panamera has Daytime Running Lights to help keep it more visible under all conditions. Canadian government studies show that driving with lights during the day reduces accidents by 11% by making vehicles more conspicuous. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer Daytime Running Lights.
Both the Panamera and the Quattroporte have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four wheel antilock brakes, traction control and electronic stability systems to prevent skidding.
The Panamera’s corrosion warranty is 6 years and unlimited miles longer than the Quattroporte’s (10/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).
There are almost 5 times as many Porsche dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier to get service under the Panamera’s warranty.

On the EPA test cycle the Panamera S RWD gets better fuel mileage than the Quattroporte with its standard engine (16 city/24 hwy vs. 12 city/18 hwy).
The Panamera S4/Turbo’s standard fuel tank has 2.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Quattroporte (26.4 vs. 23.8 gallons).
For better stopping power the Panamera’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Quattroporte:

The Panamera offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.
In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The Panamera has a standard brake assist system to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.
The Panamera stops shorter than the Quattroporte:

For better traction, the Panamera’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Quattroporte (F:255/40R20 & R:295/35R20 vs. F:245/45R18 & R:285/40R18).
The Panamera offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Maserati doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Quattroporte.
For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Panamera is 3 inches wider in the front and 2.6 inches wider in the rear than on the Quattroporte.
The Panamera Turbo 4 handles at .92 G’s, while the Quattroporte pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.
The Panamera Turbo 4 goes through Road & Track’s slalom 3.3 MPH faster than the Quattroporte (69.1 vs. 65.8 MPH).
The Panamera S executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Quattroporte S (25.7 seconds @ .72 average G’s vs. 26.3 seconds @ .67 average G’s).
For better maneuverability, the Panamera’s turning circle is 1.2 feet tighter than the Quattroporte’s (39.3 feet vs. 40.5 feet).
The Porsche Panamera may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 50 to 400 pounds less than the Maserati Quattroporte.
The Panamera is 5.1 inches shorter than the Quattroporte, making the Panamera easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.
As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Panamera S is quieter than the Quattroporte Sport GT S:
Panamera |
Quattroporte |

The Panamera has 1.5 inches more front headroom and 3.2 inches more rear headroom than the Quattroporte.
The Panamera’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer folding rear seats.
The Panamera offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a remote starting system.
The Panamera’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge – which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Quattroporte does not have an oil pressure gauge.
The Panamera’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children in the rear seat from operating them. Maserati does not offer a locking feature on the Quattroporte’s standard power windows.
Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Panamera to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.
To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Panamera offers an optional rear wiper. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a rear wiper.
To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the Panamera offers an optional adaptive cruise control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.
The Panamera’s standard separate stalk mounted cruise control is close at hand. The Quattroporte’s standard cruise control is on an over-crowded turn signal stalk.
