The Cayman has standard head airbag curtains which act as a forgiving barrier between the driver and outboard passenger's upper bodies and the window and pillars. Combined with high-strength steel door beams and lower side airbags this system increases head protection in broadside collisions. The Audi TT doesn't offer side airbag protection for the head.

Both the Cayman and the Audi TT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four wheel antilock brakes, traction control and electronic stability systems to prevent skidding.

The camshafts in the Cayman’s engine are driven by a hardened steel chain, with no maintenance needs. The Audi TT’s camshafts are driven by a rubber belt which eventually needs to be replaced. If the Audi TT’s cam drive belt breaks the engine could be severely damaged when the pistons hit the opened valves.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Cayman has a standard 150 amp alternator. The Audi TT’s 140 amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Cayman first among compact premium sporty cars in their 2006 Initial Quality Study. The Audi TT isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2005 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche first in initial quality. With 39 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 18th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ surveys of the owners of three-year-old cars provide the long-term dependability statistics which show that Porsche vehicles are more reliable than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche 21st in reliability, above the industry average. With 31 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 27th.

The Cayman S offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Audi TT doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

When three different drivers share the Cayman, the optional memory system makes it convenient for all three. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position, outside mirror angle and climate settings. The Audi TT doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Cayman’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge – which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Audi TT does not have an oil pressure gauge.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Cayman offers an optional rear wiper. The Audi TT doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Cayman offers optional automatic dimming rear and side view mirrors which automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Audi TT has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.
